B4 (Boston Builds Better Businesses)

Killed: May 15, 2026

Cause of Death

No Sustainable Activation Loop

Post-Mortem

B4 started strong as a Boston startup community and possible B4 Angels syndicate funnel, but the launch momentum did not carry. The event format worked, LinkedIn promotion worked for a while, and the first push created real energy. Then attendance declined, founder/investor pull was not strong enough, and the last event produced only two meetings. The hard truth is that the product depended on repeated outreach, follow-up, and asking people to show up. That was the founder's responsibility, and it was also the wrong channel for him at this stage. Continuing would have required spending more personal and professional capital on a startup-community and fundraising scene he was already burnt out on. The juice was not worth the squeeze, so B4 died on the vine.

Lessons Learned

Community products need a durable activation loop beyond first-launch excitement. If the founder is not willing and energized to keep recruiting, following up, and creating attendance pull, the community will decay even if the software and event format are solid.

What I'd Do Differently

Do not restart this category without a much larger established brand, reputation, and distribution base. At the current personal brand stage, avoid community/fundraising products that require constant founder-led activation.
